My brother called from the road home. They were very glad they went and I am, too. He discovered that the sitters that have been with Mom 24/7 for a week are not being paid!!! I specifically asked Theresa who made the arrangements to let me know if I needed to arrange for payment and I followed that up with an email last Thursday saying that I was assuming they would fold the payments into Mom's monthly bill. I heard nothing and falsely assumed it was being handled.

Turns out these poor women are recording their hours on a pad and leaving it on Mom's dresser and have not been paid a penny! And if my brother had not been there, I suspect they might have gone for lordknowshowlong before I found out about it. Cripes.

I'm so not happy. I appreciate the fact that Theresa takes good care of Mom but jesus, she manages tons of people and this is how she treats them??? Crap.

I just called Polly and left her a voice mail and then sent an email to her and to the woman who pays Mom's bills and asked them to make it all right. As I type this, there is a slim chance that maybe my brother misunderstood or that the sitter they talked to (who described the problem) was misinformed and Theresa plans to fix it tomorrow... so maybe it's not as bad as I think it is. Ok, deep breath.

My brother did say that Mom is not unhappy particularly. He said every time she complained about something (and Mom is so not a complainer) he would grill her on her general feelings - 'but you are happy here, right?' - 'you don't want to be somewhere else, do you?' - 'everyone is being nice to you, aren't they?' And all the responses indicated that she's happy and feels cared for. And I guess that's all we can really hope for.
