First Day Back...

Payback, I guess. I've been heads down at my desk since 6. None of it, so far, is stuff that accumulated while I was gone - it's all net new crapola.

Another RFP - the sales rep's first. The answer section (not the section of the extra white papers, or the cover letter or the executive summary which is 7 freakin pages long... hate to see the executive full story!)... the answer section alone is 58 pages - 4MB long. Apparently, the rep is under the impression that the vendor with the fattest, heaviest, most wordy proposal will win.

We have a large Toshiba color copier connected to a server that turns it into a printer. It does a lot of cool stuff. But, you really need to understand how to make it do stuff or you get the server hung and/or the paper jammed. Few people have taken the time to learn. I sit next to the printer and am very familiar with its peculiarities.

One (of the Twinkies - surprised??), in particular, believes in her heart of hearts that if she sends a multitude of jobs to the printer, it will somehow surrender and do it her way. So while editing the document from hell, I got a lot of little breaks when I had to get up and diagnose and fix the latest rape of the printer.

I have lots of things on my must do next list. And it's growing every minute. My manager just IM'd me with yet another little project that needs to be done this week and wanted to make sure I could do it. I suggested that maybe it was time for her to sit down with me and my list and make some decisions. She's on her way now to help me figure out what gets simmered and what gets cooked next.
