A Mom Report
Jun. 20th, 2005 12:44 pmBefore Mom broke her butt, we had an email rhythm. I'd send her one before I went to bed and there would be one from her waiting when I got up or one that would come in while I was on the bus. Then, we'd swap a couple during the day - not saying much - just checking in.
Then she hit the floor and our schedule got cracked. When she got back from the hospital and started getting her marbles back, I started the morning phone calls. I get off the bus and have about a 10 minute walk to my desk so I'd fire up the Treo and give her a call. This is generally about 9ish her time.
Lately she's been calling me at night before she goes to sleep. Again, just to check in.
But, now she's getting better. And I think we're headed back to our email schedule. Before she fell, it suited us both much better than phone and now I think she's thinking it would be better again.
This morning, I had a note from her when I got up. A regular, good-morning-this-is-what-I-have-planned-what-do-you-have-planned note. I replied from Treo on the bus but then decided to call anyway. I got her machine and figured maybe she and her sitter got an early start on walking the halls for exercise. But, I got no more emails from her. I VNC'd to her computer and saw that she had not checked her email and had not seen my bus note.
Finally, I just called. And her first question was 'well, didn't you get my email??!' Ohhhh Kay. But, we had a nice visit anyway. She says that she heard by the grapevine that they were going to ease off on her sitters - starting with the night ones this week. And, she really wants to get back to the dining room because one of her table mates is now well and 'it's not fair to make her eat alone'. She sent Polly to Wallgreens to get a donut for her to sit on.
Oh and she's been watching the tennis all morning on ESPN where, apparently, they are making much hay over the Mariners shutting down the Mets. "Weren't there any other baseball games yesterday???"
It was really fun to hear her so bright and chipper and full of herself and full of news and caring what happens.
