Politically Incorrect Work Whine
Jun. 21st, 2005 11:03 amOk, this will just show you how unfeeling and uncaring I really am... There's a woman who works in an office (with a door) about 8 feet from there chair (which is located in a cube that has no door - not even a Les Nesman Door).
She has a loud voice, a really severe stutter, a large family and some serious vacation planning that, apparently, MUST be done this week. She started yesterday and today is going full steam. Oh and the kids have appointments at the doctor's and the dentist's and we need to make all those arrangements.
Generally, I can tune out crap. I'm good at it. I can eaves drop or not and tune out stuff I don't want to hear. But, it turns out, that my tuning out talents fall way short of a very shrill stutter. I find myself breathing or actually, not, as she struggles to get out sentences.
If she didn't stutter, I'd just be pissed that she's taking up work air to arrange her life and making all of us in this room listen along.
But, since she has this handicap and I am now distracted by her content, her volume, her handicap and my inability to tune it all out and I feel guilty!
I just got up and closed her door while she was on the phone. She got off the phone, popped out to apologize, got back on the phone and... Left the fucking door open! Ok, so in addition to a stutter, she has a brain/personality defect. Now I am going to hell. And, I'm guessing it sounds something like what I'm hearing right now.
