I'm not the geekiest
Jun. 29th, 2005 07:48 amHello everyone. My name is Susan. And I don't understand podcasts.
There is very little technology wise speaking that I don't find fascinating. But, I think I'm going to have to take a bye here on podcasts. First of all, I'm not a big radio person. I listen to NPR - mainly Morning Edition and sometimes All Things Considered and most all of the talk and game shows on Saturday and Sunday morning NPR. (Parenthetically - I love saying that - especially hugged by parentheses - I can't turn the damn thing off fast enough when they start up The Prairie Home Companion. That guy dances on my last nerve.)
But, outside of those shows, I rarely turn the radio on. And I don't listen to much music. Thanks to
estis, I have a tidy little collection of MP3's of 50's music that I listen to once in a while but that's about it.
So my Treo holds all the music I need and thanks to timezones and various NPR stations around the country, I can get a stream of either Morning Edition or All Things Considered on my Treo about any time I want to listen to it.
My listening windows are kind of tiny anyway. There's about 45 minutes from the time I leave the house until the time I get to work but I generally don't 'listen' then because I am reading the paper, catching up with bus mates or chatting with Mom. Then there is 45 minutes and sometimes longer on the way home if I hop off the bus to do errands. But, usually, I am also in the middle of one of the books that I've ripped to MP3 from the CDs.
I missed the whole Napster boat and it looks like podcasts are going to be floating down that same river. Doesn't make me a bad person. When the conversation turns to podcasts, I just 'have to go pee' or 'oops that's my phone vibrating - back in a flash'. I can handle that.
