Mom first. She won her battle over her new apartment. She got the one she wanted - facing the way she wanted to face - on the first floor and she's happy. Apparently there is no sign yet of the missing check but that's probably going to be a lifelong battle.

About 6 years ago - I was still at Microsoft the first time so it had to be before October of 1999, I went to the store one day to replace my nearly empty Ban wideball roll on deodorant - original flavor. There wasn't any. ??!! I looked everywhere and there was none to be found in Seattle. It was amazing. An internet check led me to think that possibly a transition of the brand to a new parent along with some hosing of the western state distribution agreement collectively led to the Ban Deodorant Drought!

It's all I ever used. I was paralyzed. And about to be smelly and paralyzed. I whined to Mom about it who said "You just aren't looking hard enough. We've got plenty. I was at Eckerd's this morning and the shelf was full." Those were back in the days before she was so dependent on me and didn't have to waste any cycles sucking up.

Anyway, about 4 days later, here comes an Express Delivery box. I open it up and there was a plethora of Ban. A garden of wideballs. A pack o' deodorant. I had trouble finding a place to put it all.

This morning, I uncapped the last one.

Note to self: after the library this afternoon, stop at Bartell's and buy a Ban backup.

My trip to Lowe's was a bust. A double bust really. They didn't have the tables. They had one chair. They will not order more. BUT, they did have a picture of the table and I realized it wouldn't have worked anyway. Too big and not mesh. The mesh is important because the terrace gets a lot of city dust and I want it to fall right into those little holes.

So the search goes on.

My brother is buying a Friendly Computers franchise and opening up a store in Austin, Texas. He's so very excited about it. He's sharing the details with me and asking my opinion. This morning I got a very long and detailed note about everything he's doing and all the people he's working with - real estate people, build out people, bookkeeping people, business people, bank people, VA people... He had shared some of it with me before and asked my advice. I made two suggestions to him before and today's note included his results from both my suggestions and his gratitude for my having made them.

I so want this to be everything he wants it to be. He sure sounds like he's doing all the right things and Mom says his attitude about everything has changed and brightened.
