Walking stuff
Dec. 13th, 2003 10:04 amYesterday, when I left home from my walk, it has rained but stopped. I was about 2 miles from home when, as we used to say on the East Coast, the bottom fell out. It poured. It rarely pours around here, but it did yesterday. I didn't mind too much. I'm pretty much wash and wear. But I didn't have a baggie for my Treo.
Anyway, today I set out with baggie and with my Blue Jays poncho. I went the waterfront route so I could snap the proof shot that
mickeytor requested... Here ya go, Dude! And that's a Seattle fireboat. Cool, eh?

I also meandered a bit around a couple of blocks east from the water. I live in the oldest part of Seattle. It is bloated with character. I mean there are a million nooks and crannies of fascinating things. I discovered today a little storefront Australia/New Zealand travel agency. I never saw that before but it doesn't look like the plopped there yesterday.
The architecture and placement of buildings is interesting and variegated. I'm used to old shit. The building I went to high school in was built in 1772 (and, we swore, had the original plumbing). My Mom lives in Charleston, SC which is nothing but old shit.
Nothing even got to Seattle until the late 1800's and then it pretty much all burned down and they had to build it all up again at the turn of the last century. It's not even that old but it is has more personality and cool stuff than the carefully preserved and revered stuff on the east coast. I don't understand it but I do love it.

Date: 2003-12-13 10:27 am (UTC)Your other pics look great. I'm really sorry that I didn't get out to Seattle on my recent Vancouver trip -- but I'm hoping to get out that way again -- and with any luck would like to make it to Seattle this time.
