Office hijinks...

So to 25 year old Kenny, there is little more important than his wheels. He drives some kind of fancy sports car - sleek black. My fat ass can barely even fit in it. But, alas, someone dinged it last week and he had to take it in for repair. He got a rental car...

Oh the humiliation - a Buick.
"What color?"
"I don't even remember, it's a Buick, what can it matter?"

He's been moaning about this all day but his best line was: "It doesn't matter how old you are, when you are behind the wheel of that car, you are automatically 75 years old."

And then, from the neighboring cube farm - the dev engineers, a cellphone keeps going off. The ringtone is particularly odious. The first couple of times, we ignored it. Then I suggested that it sounded like the ringtone of someone who drives a Buick. Fighting words.

Several gathered round the next time a call came in...

"We need to take out the owner..."
"I have a cousin, Guido..."
"Here's a quarter to start the fund... "
"Ok, well, maybe we can't afford Guido.... I have another cousin, Timmy..."

"Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?
A Buick,
A '59 Buick (http://www.carnut.dk/us/59buick_story.html)?
Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick
This year!"

I haven't been able to get this jingle out of my head since I read your post.

Before my little 93-year old neighbor ...suddenly, and without telling a soul, (not me and not her son) drove to the Saturn dealer and brought one home...she drove a Buick. And, I in turn..in driving her on the freeway (since she only drives in the Valley) drove her around in the Buick, I can appreciate it. That car salesman must have seen her coming. She probably should have gotten cash BACK, from the trade-in. She kept it immaculate and serviced regularly.

That car drove smoothly, was powerful and was no comparison to the Saturn. (with all due respect to Saturns, sorry...but with a smaller engine and tires it just doesn't measure up in comfort)

So, tell Kenny....I'm one of those "old 75 year old feeling drivers."

Hope he gets his racy, sleek black car back soon. ;)
