Quiet...

Microsoft is having a 30th birthday party/company meeting for all regular employees all day at the baseball stadium near my house. So it's only me and the rest of the contractors here today... Pretty quiet so far.

I drove the car in today because I am on a gold fish hunt after work. I have two likely spots scoped out and both are very near here.

I was sure there was a McDonald's on the way here and close to here but I never found it. The only thing open was Jack in the Box. I am not a big Jack in the Box person and this morning may have actually been my first time. I would like to state, for the record, that their breakfast burrito is spectacular in its underwhelmingness. Next time, I'm going to find me a McDonald's even if I have to go out of my way.

I had my first New TV Season casualty last night. I didn't even make it to the half way mark of E-Ring. Killed it and its season pass. I had to watch a sure bet - House - just to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Nipping yet another soul from certain medical catastrophe in under an hour, did the trick. Sometimes predictability is comforting.

Tonight is a birthday party. My friend, Kieran, is turning a ripe old 33. He's throwing the party himself. He is a marvelous cook and has been working on the menu for weeks. I am a major carnivore and Kieran is a vegetarian. But he, long ago, proved to me that good cooking (and wonderful presentation) trumps the meat requirement any day. So tonight promises to be excellent. Plus, he and Alan have interesting friends.

I do worry a little about the wine. There is tons of it and nothing non-alcoholic and I just know that some night, coming home from here, I am going to get pulled over and sent to DWI prison. I need to figure out a way around that. (Kieran always asks if I'm ok to drive but since there is no good alternative to my not driving, I tell him... I'm fine.) Their house is not an easy taxi location. BUT, I've thought that one plan might be to the short distance to the major street where there are businesses with parking lots, park and call a cab and get the car via a bus the next day. If I need to, I can do that.

Rhetorical ques du jour: When you don't take the bus to work, when do you read the morning paper?
