I am really surprised at my reaction to this job news. First of all, it feels like a surprise. It isn't but it somehow feels like it. And I feel unprepared which I am not.

So, in an effort to make me feel better, I went home - went to the Starbucks website - found a job listing for an intranet provider (internal corporate communications is really my first love) - and applied on line.

And I thought about belt tightening - I need to crunch the nums as they say - but regardless, cutting back on frivolous spending seems like a good idea. No $50 body cream. So glad I didn't order that on line last night.

I have an appointment to get my hair permed and cut on Monday - I made the appointment on Monday because my hair place had a 15% off for anything that day. Then I got an email from them that they have cancellations and any appointments tomorrow before 2 are 20% off. The gods are with me.

And, [livejournal.com profile] sylphishone, bless her, reminded me of one of my top 5 laws for job hunting...

Make sure everyone you know knows you are looking and knows how to get their hands on your resume quickly...

I hope you'll fee free to share with anyone and everyone you know. :)

And on a totally unrelated note, I had yet another wonderful shareware experience this morning.

I'm a big user of Outlook Express at home and also at work (for my personal email). It's a great program but a bitch to backup. Periodically I google around to see if someone has come up with a better scheme. Today I found several but the best of the bunch seems to be Outlook Express Email Saver by an outfit called MazePath. Their website is pretty gawdy (talk about someone who needs help!) but their product does what I need - scheduled separate backups (not rewrites) that can be done while OE is running.

But, I hit on a snag that just made no sense to me. The program's only $15 but still. So I wrote to the email address and asked if I was seeing the problem because I was using a trial version. I got a very fast response back saying that it was a known issue, here's how to make it work and, for my trouble, he sent me a registration key!! How cool is that?

Considering the various negative comments you've madeabout the way things work at your company, getting out may be a good thing. And your new job will produce a whole new cast of characters to amuse us with.

Hang on tight, Susan, and ride proudly through it all. I'm sure with your many talents you'll be hard to replace, and highly sought after. We're thinking of you too - what a lovely Christmas gift!

Without reading the resume, are you willing to relocate? No travel.
