I've been having some strange email misses. I have all my LJ comments sent to my susandennis.com email. Saturday, I got about 20 comments. I only got about 17 in email. The comments left by
jimcarson almost never get sent to my email and there were a couple of other comments that I didn't get notices about yesterday. I've gotten so I have to keep any eye on the comment page to make sure I don't miss anything.
This morning, Mom said she sent me a note. I didn't get it. I assumed she forgot to his 'send' or she addressed it to the New York Times or it somehow landed in her drafts (she rotates on the three of those scenarios fairly regularly).
So when I got to work, I VPN'd and discovered that she did none of those things. She hit 'reply' to my note and it sure looks like it should have gotten here and it has not.
BUT, here's the clammy part... While I was on her computer I saw that she had about a bazillion IE windows open. She's not so big on closing windows. When I see this, I just go along and close them all down for her. Today I was closing, closing, closing and BAM I see my LJ user page!! And my who's who page... Mom has cracked the code! (And I have no clue how... I try to keep my various websites - puzzles and knitting and books and buzznet stuff - separated from LJ but I guess there's a leak somewhere...)
Panic. I think I'd just as soon she not see these entries. I don't want to have to explain everything to her. But, I don't want to lock down everything either.
I was able to see from her history that it was this morning when she did this. We talked this morning and she didn't say anything so I suspect she didn't understand it and didn't think anything more about it. She did not, apparently, figure out how to get to the journal. Only the user page. Whew.
But, back to the email thing... I don't know who to blame - my spam filter (they aren't getting caught in the net, just not showing up there), my ISP's mail server, sun spots, global warming? It's a bit frustrating. I guess I'll move my LJ comment notification to another email address for a bit and see if I still get missing bits. If you don't mind and have the time, would you please leave a test comment here - 'testing, testing...'? Thanks.
