Today's center adventure is The Urban Craft Uprising which is being held just down the street from here.  I'll be there at noon.  I suspect it will be mobbed but maybe not.  It does sound like a great way to see a lot of different crafts in one place.  Kind of like a real life DIY Network adventure (and, yes, I watch too much television).

It's not raining this morning.  And the pavement outside is dry.  It's been several weeks since that's happened.  Kind of feels strange.

It dawned on me last night that my trip to Mom's is in only 2 weeks.  I leave on the 18th on a red eye.  I'm not dreading it quite as much as in recent years but I'm still not putting it on my 'yipee' list.  A week is a long time.  And while it's fairly easy to dismiss her annoying side when it comes over in email, it's far more tricky face to face.  I try to focus on the fun bits and really ignore the parts where she tells me the same thing over and over and over and over and over again and the complaints and the unfair and nearly mean things she can and does say.  When we are face to face I also try to ignore it but a week is a long time.  And everything is sooooo slow....

Walmart is less than a mile away from her house.  If she wants to go get one thing it's a 3 hour ordeal.  Getting to a meal takes for freakin' ever.  And the people there - the staff and other residents are perfect for her but drive me up the wall with their inefficiency and constant Southern drooling.

Ok, I think I have that all out of my system.  I only go once a year. It costs me nothing but time and energy.  She loves the visit and appreciates everything I do.  For 51 weeks a year I am so very grateful as we all know for the 3,000 miles that separate us and the 3 time zones - thankyoujesus!

She wanted to make a teddy bear like I'm making.  She's not that good a knitter and she does not know it.  But, what the hell.  Several months ago, I ordered her a kit that included the instructions, the yarn, the stuffing and even the needles.  She promptly threw the stuffing out with the box thinking it was packing material.  She has now twice lost the instructions.  She doesn't like the wooden needles and wants to get metal ones.  Last night she lost the fucking pattern again.  This time, I scanned mine in and PDF'd it and mailed it to her and VPN'd to her machine and printed it out.  I'm hoping that will hold her for a week or so.

Yep fun times are a comin' for Thanksgiving.  I got a letter from the hotel where I stay saying it was no longer a Hampton Inn and I should check my reservations.  So I called and got  a real nice guy who said that nothing had changed it was all good.  I asked him if they still had free wifi and he allowed as how they had just boosted the service. YESSS!!  Now I gotta figure out if I want to take the new - 6 lb laptop or the trusty tiny Lifebook.

Ok enough grousing.  I am showered and dressed and I think I'll do some work work before heading off to the Craft Uprising.
