Again no work today - yet that I know of anyway - so I'm having a liesuely morning. The credenza behind me has kind of gathered some things that need to be put away. I need to do some filing. My LJ style needs a fix and I think I'll do a load of laundry. We'll see after that.
I got a note this morning from my friend, Jim A. Back in California, Jim and Jim were a valuable part of the circle of friends that made my time in California so much fun. The Jims had been together since forever. Both worked at IBM. But Jim A. wanted to get out of the computer biz and into the design/architecture biz. So he went back to school. They came up here one weekend to visit and that weekend stands out for two reasons.
The first was that Jim A had a homework assignment which involved designing for a space that was at least 1,000 square feet and had only one light source. He about shit when he walked in the door here. 1,300 square feet and my only daylight comes from the doors out to the terrace and the windows beside them. I loved being a homework assignment.
The Jims moved from San Jose to San Francisco shortly thereafter and I lost them totally. But, when I talked to Tina about how to get the word out when John died, she was current on both of them. They broke up and each picked a new partner with a different name and they are all happy and friendly.
The note from Jim A this morning confirms that and adds that he's now doing architecture/design for corporate spaces and is working on two Seattle projects! Hopefully one of them will make him come for a site visit.
The other memorable part of that weekend... They wanted to go to the Boeing Museum. To me that sucker is a snoozer and I'd been there too many times before so I gave them the car keys and directions and wished them well. They had fun, returned the keys and left a few days later.
About a week or so after that, I needed to go to the grocery store and went down to the car only to discover it was gone! Missing. Where in the fuck did I leave it? Thought back, remembered the Jims had it last. Frantically called Jim F. - Where did you leave the car????
Long story short, it was stolen. I eventually got it back. But when the cops asked me when it was stolen and best I could give them was a two week window, they were not impressed.
Got a note just now from my brother - it's opening day for his computer store!! I'm not sure I knew today was the day, actually. But, he sent the photo for proof. Yikes! Mom should have sent him something - flowers or something! She is at lunch so I couldn't even ask her if she wanted to. Mad scramble. It's already noon in Georgetown, Texas.
I have to buy local. #1 with florists, my experience says you always get better when you deal directly with the florist who's going to be sticking those things in the vase and #2 my bro is now a local small biz owner who needs other local small business owners to need him.
Fortunately, the town has a lovely website that led me to the Chamber of Commerce that gave me the name of a florist with a phone number and bingo/bamo... I had Denise on the line. And she was up to speed "I saw they were opening up some kind of computer store there the other day!" Fruit basket with a green plant and a card from Mom that wishes them them bunches and bunches of success. It will be there before 5 today. WHEW. Then I sent Mom a note with the details of what she had done. I am such a good daughter/sister.
