12 hours and counting

susandennisI won't be leaving my house for another 12 hours but I'm in the final prep stages. I just printed out my boarding passes. I love that.
My Dad was a Professional Traveler. He was on the road most of his career. He had it down to a science. He could pack in his sleep. He could fold a shirt with such precision that when he unfolded it and put it on it looked, for all the world, as if it had just been ironed perfectly. I spent a lot of my growing up sitting on my parents' bed watching Daddy pack.
He was an airport soldier as well. He could talk the meanest ticket agent out of a free first class upgrade and make that ticket agent feel like he or she had just been given the greatest gift ever. He was a member of every airline club and knew their lounges as well as he knew our living room. And they knew him.
He died just in the knick of time. He had already seen one airline (Southwest) give up seat assignments and go with a first come/first served boarding policy which he honestly thought was probably the beginning of the downfall of civilization. And then there was 9/11. I just cannot see Daddy matriculating through today's traveling environment.
But, I think he would marvel that I can check in to my 10:45 flight tonight from the comfort of my living room this morning.
