Arrived safe and sound
Nov. 19th, 2005 11:59 amMy luck has been so good that it's now making me a bit nervous.
I got to Charleston on time. Went to find the Thrifty auto rental place. I found all the others but no Thrifty. The Alamo guy had no customers so I very apologetically asked him. "If I swear to use Alamo next time, would you be so kind this time to tell me where Thrifty is?" He was more than gracious. You have to call Thrifty and they come get you. it's really six of one... but I owe the Alamo guy next time.
My GPS lady was happy to be here and got me right to Mom's. That's one heck of a handy toy.
Mom and I had a nice visit and I got my list of stuff to do. She has about 4,000 cords and cables in 3 specific spots that she needs hidden. It need some kind of small boxes or stools. There's a Lowe's between here and there and a Walmart just past there. Worst case, I'll get nice cardboard boxes and wrap them in paper and put the cords in there! I actually may do that as choice #1. (One spot is behind the TV and one is behind a chair and the third is under the computer table. I think boxes would work.)
Then we went out to lunch and and I got to see the new bridge. Now the new bridge replaces to old bridges and the old bridges always made you feel like you could buy it before you got to the other side. This new bridge is wide and sturdy and nice BUT, it is also an architectural beauty. It is amazing to drive over. It's like being inside a sculpture. The photo is below. Here is a nice website with the dets.
After lunch I got my suitcases and headed over to the hotel. The hotel has changed hands since last year and it's all good. The wifi access was iffy last year. It's wonderful this year. Just like being in my living room. The hotel used to be a Hampton Inn and now it's a LaQuinta. Lots of nice touches. Iron and ironing board, hair dryer, movie channels, a clock radio with numbers I can read probably from Seattle and two great women who made checking in a breeze.
When Mom lived in the big apartment, dinner every night was a dress up affair. I started leaving my clothes here. In the assisted living section it's not as dressy so I added to the batch last year. Plus there was an empty suitcase in the storage stuff so I commandeered that. The bottom line is that I nearly have more clothes here than I do at home! I'm going to leave one suitcase full here. I might mail some stuff home and I might just donate it. But, I am set with everything I need.
Plus, I did a fine job of packing. Most everything unpacked perfectly with no ironing needed... this after having been in a suitcase for a year! I'm good.
Now I think I'll post this and head back over to Mom's. I have to go through some boxes of stuff that was in storage and unbox the artwork that was also in storage so she can see what she wants on the walls.
Later, gaters.
