Technical Trip Tidbits

This has been an interesting trip technology wise. I brought the big (6 lbs all by itself) laptop and I'm glad I did. 

• The GPS thing is cool and has been helpful.  It would be more helpful if the software was a little more intuitive and/or I had spent some time figuring it out before I left. 


• The public radio station here has a crappy signal.  And the radio in my hotel room is very crappy.  And, it turns out, I can't start my morning without a little Morning Edition.  I remembered geordie one time writing about firing up his laptop to get a little BBC somewhere.  So I've been firing up Public Radio Fan and catching Morning Edition in different places around the country.  Fun.  This morning it was Perdue University where they are going to get a little snow this morning about which I am very jealous.


• While I really appreciate the free WiFi in the hotel, the fact that they have all SMTP blocked just bites the big one.  It's even more annoying since I'm sure it is the result of an idiot administrator and not by design.


• I brought my wireless mouse which is a very good mouse but I sure don't need it.  Next time, it stays home.


• The Sprint network is a lot better than it used to be.  A lot better.  I can attach the Treo and fire up PDA Net (the software that makes Treo a modem) in about the time it takes to connect to a wireless network and I swear the surface speed as nearly the same.
