And still more consumer consuming
Dec. 5th, 2005 05:01 pmI went to the deli across the street for lunch. I was late so the line was long. I amused myself with solitaire on Treo and then, when my turn came, I shoved it back into my pocket. I got home maybe 3 minutes later, pulled it out and the antenna was gone! It's not one of those extended diameter or a coat hanger antennae... This sucker is the size of my pinkie from the last joint to the tip! And there was a big gaping hole where the thing had been.
I called Sprint. I wallowed in telephone hell for a really long time. I was trying to find out which Sprint store to go to where I stood a chance of getting it fixed or replaced. Finally I gave up and hopped into the car. The Sprint store I usually go to is in the center of town. It is small and dark and crowded and full of teenagers - customers and staff and they are not interested in me, my account or my phone.
So I headed out for the University District. No clue where it was so I took GPS with me. Found it very easily and it was a nice, bright, cheery store with easy parking and it was EMPTY! The door chime brought out a clerk who took my info and my phone and said she'd be right back. Now, generally, I use my Treo to entertain me while I wait (see paragraph #1 above). But she had my Treo so I just waited.
Pretty soon, here she comes, Treo in hand and he has a new antenna and it cost me nothing. I happy.
Then I get home and get the mail. Two envelopes from Shaper Image. Both with a UPS label for returning Roomba. Which one to use? They have different tracking numbers. So I call. The guy says use either one. I ask if he had a tracking number for my replacement. He did. I thanked him and hung up and looked up the tracking number. The UPS site said that my box had been delivered 1 hour earlier!!!
Went down, got the new Roomba, plugged it in to charge it up. Put the old one in the new box, slapped the UPS label on it and I'll leave it for Mr. UPS tomorrow.
Nice.
