If you can't believe a mailbox??!!
Dec. 22nd, 2003 08:25 amSo yesterday, I went out of my way to walk by the bigger of the two neighborhood post offices. (My closest one is really a sub office - I went to the one that mine is a sub of this time.) I did that so I could main my two Netflix returns in hopes of getting this week's movies before Christmas. (On later thought, I realized that Christmas is only one mailing day so it's really not that big a deal and it's not like I'm waiting for a hot new release.)
But, anyway... I got to the bigger P.O. only to discover that the next pickup of mail was 11 a.m. Monday - according to the schedule on the blue box. The lobby was closed. No other mailing opportunities. So, 11 a.m. Monday it is. Fine.
Except. It is now 8:15 a.m. Monday and I just got an email from Netflix that they got my returns already!!
Is this what they mean by time travel????
And on another post office related issue - gifts to mail carriers... My friend, Lee (of neighbors Lee and Sherry) came by on Saturday to wrap and retrieve Sherry's Christmas presents. We chatted. I told her about the very cool little pen/am/fm radio thing I got for Lee, my mail carrier. She whipped around and asked 'how much did it cost?' I told her $15 and she said ok... So I dug in and asked for the dets.
Lee works in personnel at the post office. She said that no postal employee is permitted to accept any gift with a value of more than $20 and if they are given such a gift they must return it. And no postal employee is allowed to accept cash at all. And she was all personnel police about it, too! Whew. I was sure glad my pen/am/fm radio thing was under $20!
