The Mom Report - the news is good...
Jan. 2nd, 2006 09:07 amMom was due to go in at 10. At 9 (6 my time) Polly called to say she got bumped up (I am taking full credit for this) and she was going in.
I keep a little mailing list of my brother, his wife and my sister and when Polly calls, I send out the update. My sister wrote back this morning that she was trying to decide which of her daughters to take with her when she goes next weekend to help Mom out. WTF??? Mom is not going to be interested in entertaining a teenager. The point of my sister's going is to take care of Mom - not a free road trip for her and her daughter. Holey fuck.
But, I know that I am not reasonable when it comes to my sister. So I wrote back to her acknowledging that she could make her own decisions but I thought this one was highly inappropriate and would put Mom in a very difficult position at the worst possible time.
Then Polly called two hours later to say that Mom was out of surgery... and all was well!! She was breathing on her own and the surgeon said the repair to her shoulder was not as extensive as he thought it might be and as far as her shoulder was concerned, she could probably be discharged tomorrow! It's likely that her regular doctor might want to keep her there an extra day to get her blood thinner stable. But, still...
Polly had already talked to 'the home' to get them to get sitters lined up to stay with Mom for the first few days.
I told Polly about my sister's plan. I even couched it in terms of 'we all know my feelings about her are not rational so I'd like your opinion...' Polly took off - totally inappropriate! If she wasn't such a nice Southern lady, she would have definitely gone the NFW route and loudly. 'Tell her to call me tonight at home. Your mother needs assistance, not something else to worry about.' Go Polly! And then when she found out that my sister was planning on having Mom pay for these two last minute plane tickets across the country, she very nearly got to NFW.
We both agreed that thank goodness my sister-in-law was going to be there for the first few days. She is no drama, get it done, quietly and calmly and nicely.
Whew....
