Daddy was in the rag biz... and even tho his company made pretty much only underwear and pajamas, we always had the latest issue of Womens Wear Daily around our house.  If you saw me every day these days, you would think I've never even seen a mirror, much less a fashion publication.

I went to school in the days when the only pants girls were allowed to wear were underpants.  (Heck, the first shopping center ever built in Winston-Salem had, as one of it's big marketing ploys, that women could now shop in bermuda shorts instead of having to dress up to go downtown.  And believe me, that was HUGE.)

I spent 15 panty-hosed years at IBM before casual Fridays were invented.

But, honestly, it's really been downhill from then and now, I'm pretty sure I've hit rock bottom.  When I took this job, I got new work clothes.  Sweat pants.  Not your Paris Hilton french terry sweats.  But common old $6.95 cotton mens sweats from the big and tall (and wide, but they don't say that) section of Fred Meyers.  Not only are men's sweats cheaper, they have a drawstring in addition to the elastic waste AND they have pockets.  Womens pants so rarely have pockets which is a crime - why can't lobbiests work on something important!  Sorry... off track.

Anyway, I bought 4 pair of these treasures.  And I love them.  They are soft and warm and comfy.  They look like crap but they feel soooooo good.  I have a variety of long sleeved and short sleeved knit tops that I rotate as well.

But today, I am meeting Susan and Kenny for lunch so I decided to dress up!  Yep, today I'm wearing my jeans.  That's what passes for dress up these days in my house.

I actually do have about 2 outfits that are suitable for interviews/funerals/dinner on the town/the opera/a fancy party...  I even have a pair of panty house* that I think I can still cram this huge ass into if need be.  So, if it's an emergency, I can pull together something that pretends to look like I do own a mirror.

The down side of having sweats as your default is that dress down days can really present a challenge.
