The Mom Report
Feb. 3rd, 2006 03:45 pmSoooooo last night Polly calls to say that they fucked up Mom's cumadin for the second night in a row. I told Polly to call Sarah and leave a voice mail. I sent email. The Barry (the temp person in charge of assisted living) calls me to explain and basically says it happened, he made sure that she did get what she was supposed to get, he has no way of preventing it from happening again and but he's left a message for Sarah on her office phone, her home phone and her cell phone.
I sleep peacefully.
This morning, Sarah calls me. She has talked to Mom's doctor and investigated and acknowledges that there is a severe problem and that she can certainly understand my concern and she's going to fix the problem. But, Mom's doctor suggested that maybe they give Mom back all her medication and let her do it herself. Sarah asks me if thats what we want to do.
A year and a half ago they told Mom she had to move in to assisted living and the major reason was that her medications were too complicated for her to manage. At the time she screamed bullshit.
I told Sarah this morning that if I suggested to Mom that she manage her drugs herself she would light up like a firecracker over the whole thing all over again. So Sarah asked if I wanted her to offer Mom the choice and I said yes. But that even if Mom decided to take it on it would be temporary. I emphasized once again that I wanted the Assisted put back into Assisted Living. We're paying for it. We were promised it. We need it and so there.
She agreed.
Mom called this afternoon to report that Sarah had been there and they chatted and Mom declined the invitation but was pleased, once again, that Sarah took the time to talk to her.
She was off to get her hair washed and that was her real focus for today.
I am sure that in a few weeks - especially if no more shit hits the fan - the focus will move to someone or something else. But I don't think it will be difficult to get them back on track. As
jimcarson so eloquently put it, I am now the official Director of Opening the Can of Whoop-Ass. So just step back.
I sleep peacefully.
