Mom's world
Feb. 27th, 2006 08:49 amSo... This morning at 7 my time, Mom calls and wants to know whether or not we fired the sitter who was supposed to come at 3. I told her that I had not heard from Polly so I didn't know.
Bad answer. So I told her I would find Polly or figure out something. No answer on Polly's cellphone so I called Barry. Barry is the acting head of Mom's section of 'the home'. Thankfully, he answered his phone and was on top of the situation. I told him the problem and asked him what he thought and he said that he thought she could get along without the 3 pm person and he'd get a hold of her and tell her not to come. We talked about her night sitter and agreed to leave that one in place for now. He volunteered to go tell Mom.
I called Polly expecting to leave another message on her machine but she answered. She's not as confident about Mom's ability to be on her own but she knows when she's out voted.
10 minutes later, Mom calls back. Barry has been there. She is so relieved. She says that Barry said they would keep the night sitter 'for a few days' - she told him 'TWO days' and he said ok. She said that the first thing she was going to do was brush her teeth - 'all by myself without someone watching me do it!'
I said 'well, please don't fall'... she said she has a very sharp letter opener that she'll take with her into the bathroom and if she falls again, she's just going to use it. 'We won't need sitters then!'
As I type this, she is 4 hours away from FREEDOM and I know she's counting the minutes.
