Thunder??!!

Yes, it rains in Seattle a lot - but thunder? lightning? Not so much. In fact, in the 14 years I've lived here, I can remember hearing and seeing fewer than a half dozen times. In real life, that is. Whenever you see a TV show or a movie set in Seattle, they nearly ALWAYS have rain and most of the time they have to throw in lightning and thunder. It never fails to crack me up.
We also rarely have what I call East Coast rain. You know when it's like someone unzipped a big old cloud of rain and it just dumps out - a gully washer, we used to call it. God's car wash.
Around here when it rains it's pretty much a steady thing for long stretches. Not hard and not fast just steady. And straight down.
We just had an East Coast rain that was so hard and fast and sideways that you very nearly could not see through it. Lasted about 20 minutes in Pioneer Square. Complete with sound effects. Quite the event.
Wonder how come Mr. Oh It's Going To Snow on TV last night didn't know about this little action????
