I will say that so far this winter we have gotten far more snow than usual... Not on the ground mind you or even outside but on the weather forecasts. And each and every one is different. Our two newspapers are really stingy with the snowflakes on the weather forecasts, but our TV stations love 'em... And NPR went way out on that endowment limb to say that Seattle could get 4 inches by tonight.

I picked this graphic because it has the most snowflakes and, at the same time, is more gaudy than all the rest. Ya just gotta love the peacock...

I spent a lot of my elementary school years in Winston-Salem, NC. It snowed rarely there but each snow held the promise of no school. I remember the Superintendent of Schools (Forsyth County) was Dr. Phillips. He was the most powerful man in the world or it sure seemed to me. He, alone, made the school/no school decision. And he would make the announcement.

We'd turn on the radio and wait for Dr. Phillips' decision with all the tension that surrounds any momentous decision. My Mom would be hoping hoping hoping that he'd throw caution to the winds and keep schools open. Me hoping hoping hoping for that glorious day off.

Even Mom's 'you'll have to make up this day in the Summer' didn't hurt. (She was not a gracious loser.)

I'd bundle myself all up and open the back door and enter the wonderland. Quiet and peaceful and clean and wonderful.

Cosmic coincidence? Perhaps I left something behind on my trip out west. Not sure what it is ... but Toronto weather is doing the exact opposite! Looks like an above freezing New Years with an exceptionally warm (but rainy) weekend to follow! Snow? Nada!

I think you and I talked about trading weather in the past. You're the cold miser and I'm the dreaded heat miser. Who knows? Maybe the gods of nature heard our plea!

I never saw snow fall til I was 25 years old. I am not a lover of snow for more than about 10 hours.

You had some snow very close to you though that closed off I5. It looks like there is lots of cold weather out west.
