My sister is going

susandennisI wrote in my evening update email to my siblings about my going/not going dilemma and ask them what they thought. I got a gracious and thoughtful note from my sister saying she strongly felt that one of us should go and now. And she was willing to go alone, with me or with all four of us. And she was willing not to go if I wanted to go alone or if my brother did.
So I called my brother. At his old job in Florida. Note to self: update numbers in cellphone. Note to Brother: your old buddy, Billy is working nights now and says 'hi'. Then I did manage to dig out his current number...
I told him what her note said and said that I was inclined to encourage her to go and did he mind and he said no and we agreed that she is the hospital person in the family.
I called her (note to her child: do not scream into the phone when calling your mother to tell her it's for her)... She was a bit surprised. And why not... we have not spoken on the phone or in person in... well, probably since Daddy died in 1999. But, she rallied and I told her what I told my brother. And told her that I really did not want to go. That I don't want to see Mom in ICU. And to that she responded with a whole lot of caring and kindness and understanding and said that we are lucky to each have different strengths and talents to offer up and she was very glad to step in 'and be all of us'.
She was so gracious and so kind that she made me cry. The bitch.
