Pulling the Plug
Mar. 16th, 2006 12:48 pmPolly called because the doctor wanted one final assurance that everyone was in total agreement that no life support be given Mom. She just cannot manage without the big machine and the big machine is the life support she doesn't want. So I told her to tell the doctor to do whatever was needed to ensure Mom was comfortable and not scared and not stressed and calm and let her go.
Polly says it will likely be a few days and that she will be alive when Nancy (sister) gets there tonight. I was able to get to Nancy before she got on the plane to set her expectations. And to tell her that Polly said that Mom's face lit up when she was told that Nancy was on her way.
And while this is going on they are working on the roof directly above me and it sounds like a jack hammer is going right here in this room.
Fortunately they seem to stop whenever Polly or Nancy or the hospital calls. And Challenging Guy is MIA so far today, thankgod. And I ran out and got my library books and a teryaki chicken bowl.
And I set a restore point on Mom's computer for my sister's visit. Not at all necessary since that computer will likely never be used as is again but what the heck.
Now that we know and now that the decision is made and I know she won't have to fight or be scared any more, I'm ok. I'm ready to deal with whatever.
She had a long and glorious and fabulous run and I'm so lucky to have picked her for a mother. Well, ok, I didn't exactly pick her but I'm glad that I didn't dump her back when I was 14 and hated hated hated hated her and thought that she was the meanest most hateful mother in the whole entire world. (Of course, she told me at the time that she didn't think she was the meanest most hateful but that she was certainly trying - she just felt like she was behind a few really really mean ones on the list... And, of course, this made me even more furious!)
