faux holidays

New Zealand always amazed me with the sheer number of work holidays. I used to kid my Kiwi friends that they seemed to get a holiday if the Queen farted. My friend, Scott, on the other hand, was always confused about our holidays. How come the banks close (he's a bank manager) on Columbus Day - and several others - but everyone else works? He used to call them faux holidays. He'd write 'so is this one a faux holiday or a real one?'

Today is a faux holiday. the post office and banks are open and all the shops but most of work is a no show. The radio this morning called it a non-commute. However, I have a conference call at 8:30. So at least two people are working... my client in Redmond and his co-worker in Scotland. Unfortunately the graphic designer that my boss hired is not and I need the graphics for this website yesterday when my boss promised my client we'd have them. This was before boss went out of town/email range until Wednesday. Oh well. It just means that if/when said designer gets his shit together, I'll be the one squeezed for time. Fuckwads.

Otherwise, today should be quiet. I can't, right now, think of any place I need to go. It's cloudy so cool-ish and if it stays that way, I might just take me a little noon time stroll down to Pike Place Market. Maybe.

Just a nice, lazy, faux holiday... after I get Scotland squared away.
