It is very rare to see a man in a business suit in Seattle. If you go downtown, and hang where the few lawyers and bankers still wear them, maybe but generally, when I see a man in a suit, tie and wing tips in the middle of the day, I do a doubletake.

This morning I got whiplash. I was in the car at the stoplight and in front of me crosses a man in a suit and tie and wingtips with his briefcase at his back sporting a shiny black helmet on a bright red scooter. I came seriously close to following him to see if I could get a picture, but then I realized a picture would look posed. I hate that I don't have proof I saw it, though.

Then on to the library. When I got to the library, I realized I had forgotten my first stop. The post office. There is one near by me but your only chance at parking is first thing in the morning which is why I had left early. Sadly, I was well past it when I realized it and skipping it had thrown my timeline off. It was 9:30 and the library doesn't open until 10.

So I grabbed my bags and walked the two blocks to the grocery store and got my essentials. 9:45. So I walked around the neighborhood. Beacon Hill is a wonderful neighborhood that has so much character you really want to have dinner with it and learn more. The homes are all pretty much 50's vintage. Small, and close together with small front yards, very little side yards and funky little back yards that empty into alleys between the blocks.

Some of these houses are beautifully and meticulously maintained. Some clearly are occupied by the people who have lived there since it was built. Some are kind of run down or in the process of being repaired. Each and everyone one of them look like they have a marvelous story to tell.

My favorite bit about the blocks near the library is the giant wooden Baptist church on the corner. The sign in front boasts 4 services on Sunday plus Sunday School. It's clearly been added on to more than once. And it's lovingly painted bright turquoise green with dark turquoise green trim.

Finally the library opened and I got my book and then I still had the post office situation...

There is a bright new post office on the way back from the library that is not open on Saturday but I thought maybe they might have a stamp machine and I could at least mail some of the stuff. Way better. They had one of those Automated Postal Center thingies. You swipe your credit card and you can pretty much do everything you can do with a live person behind the counter... in air conditioned comfort.

Oh and then a sad thing. The baseball stadium is adorned with bigger than life size photos of the Important Mariners on the windows at street level along the sidewalk. I noticed yesterday that Eddie Guadardo - a really nice guy - relief pitcher we traded this week - was still up there and I was glad. This morning, when I drove by, they were scraping him off. Bye, Eddie.

Now I'm home. A/C is on. It's cool and quiet and I think I'm going to get some work work done.
