Cool is so cool
Jul. 28th, 2006 04:05 pmThe sun is out but it is not hot enough to have to even have the air conditioner on low. Or have the floor fan on at all. It's wonderful.
I made the Costco run and forgot to check and make sure I had gas. I'm sure I do. I filled up that tank not that long ago. I'm not even sure it's all that much cheaper at Costco - it just seems like it should be and I'm a stockholder so there.
When I got home I had a little work to do - a couple of technet articles - my favorite work. And I swapped a couple of notes with the program manager at my boss's office and told her I was getting a leetle bored so if she stumbled over more stuff, please remember me. She said she thought I was really busy! But, she also said they were getting a lot of inquiries for web production work and she'd see what she could turn for me. Nice.
Baseball game starts in 10 mins.
Oh I finally did hear from Carbonite and she had a very plausible reason for my not hearing earlier and answered my questions with good answers so I am going to sign up both computers. Unlimited space and automatic are kind of impressive. Also it behaves nicely when I RAS into the Microsoft network. She said they are planning on versioning so what the heck.
No seque into Memory Lane... Just jump over the road sign.

I remember exactly and distinctly when I learned about menstruation. I was 12 and my Mom told me. Prior to that, I'd never heard a peep about it. She handled it well from start to finish.
The start was that she sent my sister to bed and I didn't have to go. She could have told me I had terminal cancer, with 1 week to live and it would have been fine as long as I got to stay up and Nancy didn't.
She had a little book - I think it's was something like "Becoming a Woman" or something equally as cheesey. She had a box of Kotex and one of those medieval elastic belts. She covered the basics in a very matter of fact way. She mentioned babies very briefly and acted as if they whole thing was a nothingburger. I don't remember being at all stressed or worried or even confused. She told me that if I got my first period at school to go to the school secretary and tell her.
Sure enough, maybe a couple of months later, I got my first period. I knew exactly what it was. I went to the school secretary. She was a little too precious about it but gave me a pad and some safety pins and I figured it out.
I went home and told Mom and she gave me a box of Tampax and the instructions and told me to give them a try because it was way more comfortable that those pads. (She was a master of the understatement.) The box came with instructions and it was a bit tricky to master but I was motivated. When Daddy came home, I heard her telling him about it and I didn't think that was necessary but it didn't bother me too much.
The mothers of my girlfriends would not let them use Tampax. Not one of them. They came to me. For a while I had a nice little under the table business going. Looking back on it, it's no wonder Mom didn't drag me to the doctor for hemorrhaging issues.
