The other games

We were a gaming family - not sports. Mom was the only athlete. But, especially in the Blowing Rock house... if there was not a meal being eaten at the table, there was a game being played. If two players were available it was gin rummy or backgammon. If three or more were available it was generally Yahtzee or I Doubt It which was a card game that even the youngest could play.
We had giant tournaments that went on for weeks. Or in the winter, they would go on for a season. We did not play quietly or without enthusiasm. It was always raucous and great fun.
I was a very very poor student but always good at math and really good at arithmetic and I swear it due entirely to all those years of counting the Yahtzee dice. I loved all those games and still do. I play Yahtzee on my Treo although I've never found a really good version of the game for it.
