Keeping Clam
Aug. 15th, 2006 08:06 amWe have a local legend/restaurant chain here in town called Ivar's. They serve a lot of clams. They have giant clam head people who decorate parades and the water front. And a lot of their signage instructs you to Keep Clam. That's what I'm trying to do today.
My client - the one who's leaving in let's see 15 days, is devoting her last 15 days to annoying the shit out of me. Last night she sent me a note saying from now on, I was to send her an email every day with a list of the work I am doing for her. If I have no work, then I am to send a note that says "empty work queue". ??????? Will everyone not here please raise their hand???!!!
This is because she sent a note meant for me last week to someone else by mistake and that someone didn't bother to tell her. Probably used to her.
Anyway, I would do it for 15 days EXCEPT I know she is setting up carved-in-stone processes for whoever is going to be doing that part of her job starting September 1. And it's stupid.
So I sent her back a note saying that if she did not hear from me, she could assume "empty work queue". If there I was working on something for her, I promised an update every day.
Not good enough, it seems. This morning she says that the RM (no clue what that stands for but am guessing, in this case, it means her) will now send this mail every day. So... she's going to send me a note of what she wants me to do and then she's going to send me ANOTHER note recapping the first one?????
I have another phone meeting with her at 10:30. I'm so grateful it's on the phone. She's very short - like 4 feet or less - and I could pound her down to nothing with one hand, I think. It would be fun to try.
This morning since I have an "empty work queue" and it is not sunny (and, therefore hot in here) I'm going to tackle the Under The Desk. I'm going to pull out the CPU, open it up, give it a blow job, clean up the mess under the desk - hair, dried cat vomit, dust and then reassemble everything with a sheet protecting the works but giving Jake his hidey hole spot back.
I did check that there is an unsecured wireless network available from here since I'll be unhooking the DSL with everything else. At least my laptop will, hopefully, keep me connected.
So... wish me luck... I'm going in.
