So, the other day I bought a new counter stool and a small table - not a set but they match. And they both do varying heights. The initial idea was to have a better place to eat. BUT, I don't really have a good place for them. The stool works at the counter but the table and stool out together just looked wrong.
And then I had a lightbulb. The table would be perfect for the laptop! And certainly look better than the $20 TV table I have been using that is not tall enough anyway. Brilliant!!
BUT, the laptop table needs to glide from the desk area to the chaise area fairly frequently. And this table no glide... So I thought I'd get come of those little glid-y things you put under stuff. Fortunately, I looked before I got into the car. The bottom of the table isn't solid, it's a rim with no place to put the glid-y things.
And then I had another lightbulb. I have a plexiglass thing that I use for the laptop and mouse when it's on my lap. I put that under the table and whamo! We had gliding!! Where in the fuck do you get plexiglass the right size (about 20" round)??? I Googled away and soon realized that I didn't know enough to order online so I tried local. Forum chats revealed that Taps Plastic was the place to go and Seattle has one.
So off I go. Found it. Found parking in the shade. Found THE nicest guy. Told him the problem and $24 and 10 mins later, I have a custom glider for my table! The slipperiest stuff he had was white and I would have liked clear or silver or dark and he had those, but they weren't nearly as slippery. So white it is and it's perfect for the job. I'm delighted to bits.
Oh and the Customer Service Award du jour goes to that guy at Taps. While he was ringing up my stuff his phone started to ring. He just ignored it. Finally, the helper guy in the back got it and shortly came out to say that the person on the phone had a question about scrap plastic. He was nearly done with me and I was sighing the credit card slip but I had already told him I was in NO hurry at all. Still... I was his customer and he told the guy to tell the person on the phone he was busy and to either hold on or call back. I felt very special.
