So,  my desktop machine has been a little sluggish the past few days.  This morning, after a bit, I could no longer get to routine web pages.  Then windows told me that due to my recent hardware changes (???  they talking about when I blew out Jake's hair from the grill a couple of weeks ago ???) I needed to reactivate Windows.

And the fun begins.  It is now two hours later.  I'm connected to the internet but by IP nums only.  My desktop machine has lost the ability to translate domain names.  Nice. 

Fortunately the laptop and this little tiny computer are still up and operational. 

Right now I'm waiting for a callback from Monica in India.  She put me on hold about 10 minutes ago and then the call got disconnected.  I'll give her another 15 minutes before I call back.

On the up side, work is still quiet so I have time to fuck with this today. Much better it happen now and not when I'm up to my ears in work stuff.

And now it has gotten even stranger. I called her back (and learned that 1.  she assumed I hung up (and still believes it) and 2.  she can initiate a call back but has to wait 24 hours).  Now I am on hold again.

Now it is an hour an a half later.  (12:20).  Monica finally assured me it was a router issue or a modem issue.  I knew it wasn't but she was at EOJ as we used to say at IBM (End Of Job). 

Before I braved Qwest, I called my local ISP.  We tried a few things and then he had a brilliant idea...  Unplug the modem from the desktop and plug it into this little tiny computer.  I did.  Worked great.  No dns issues, no issues at all.

Back to Microsoft where a new guy had me run through some of the same stuff and some different stuff and now I'm on hold again.

Fortunately work continues to be quiet and my work computer continues to work and be connected to the corporate network. 

We've tried more things and now he wants to repair Windows.  Probably the only thing to do at this point but he wants me to boot from CD and my computer won't give me the option.  I'm thinking it's a keyboard issue.  It's a Microsoft keyboard....

I'm on hold again.
