The CPU for my desktop computer is large and under the desk. I can reach it but it ain't handy. Generally, the only thing I need to reach is the CD drawer and it is so unhandy that I don't even use it a lot.
Last week I checked out a few music CD's from the library and I wanted to MP3 the stuff off of it. But, swapping the CD's is such a pain that the stack has been sitting on my desk getting closer to their return date every day.
Then this morning, I had a major dope slap... I have a small, external CD/DVD writer drive for my little Toshiba. I had been using a little freeware thing from SourceForge to turn CD songs into MP3's but in the rebaptism of the computer I loaded up Windows Media Player 11 which, apparently, if you can figure it out, does it all. Transforms, and then copies to a blank CD. (I know very little about media - I think it's a genetic defect.)
But, having the CD drive right here on the desktop is wonderful! Plus, now when I need it for the Lifebook, I won't have to dig it out of the drawer, find a power source and try to remember how to set it up. Nice.

Anyone else getting sporadic image failure for LJ userpics and mood icons? I'll load up my friends page and one or two of the userpics will be missing or some but not all of the mood icons. Some of the mood icons are stored on private servers but not most and that does not seem to be the issue.

There are still about 10% of the leaves left on the Tree I Hate. BUT, I can actually see the entire parking lot and beyond!!! Yahooo!! I'm good now until at least May, I think. Nice.

Now I have work work to do. Lots, actually. Little of it actually has to be done by Monday but I'm hoping to get a jump on some of even those long range deadlines
