bees honey test
Jan. 25th, 2007 10:53 amSo... I opened up a new online bank account with a new (to me) bank. I electronically transferred some money into it for a test. ok.
Then they sent me a postage paid envelope. I mailed the two final checks I got from the estate in that envelope - endorsed exactly the same way with the account number included. 1 was for x and 1 was for 17*x.
Today the x check is showing up in the account. The 17*x check? Nowhere to be found.
So I freak and I call. I get Mary. I explain the problem. Mary puts me on hold while she looks up stuff. Then Mary comes back and says:
"We recommend that you do NOT mail multiple checks in the same envelope. I think you should wait 2 or 3 days and see if the check shows up."
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?????? So I say.
"Well, Mary... If I had not mailed both checks at the same time, I would have no way of knowing for sure that you guys lost the big check, now would I? And, let me ask you... if a bank had lost your check for 17*x, would you wait 2 or 3 days to see if they did???"
"Probably not but there isn't anything I can do... It maybe just got dropped and someone will pick it up and post it soon."
I swear to you. This is what she said. I, as
jimcarson would say, unleashed a six pack of whoopass on that silly girl. Knowing while I was spewing that it was a total waste of time. She said that I could stop payment on the check if I wanted. "Is there anything else I can do for you today?"
Meanwhile, work was piling up with some emergencies so I dropped it for a couple of hours.
Then I called back. This time I got Kyra. I calmly and quietly explained that I was afraid they had lost one of the checks I had mailed together to them and could she please tell me when or how often the website was updated to reflect new account activity? She said, calmly and confidently that the website was ONLY updated at midnight.
But, she added, that earlier this week she'd had a call from a customer who had sent in 4 checks in the same envelope and they were posted on three different days. Then she said - very kindly:
"I'm sure you must be frantic, but you know, really, I'll just bet it shows up tomorrow. If not then, then on Monday. I honestly think it would be worth waiting."
I was honestly surprised at how much better that made me feel - instantly! I am my own study in human behavior.
So I'll wait. Probably until Monday. And then, can you picture it? My note to the estate lady telling her I need her to stop payment and issue me another check??????
I think Mom is going to come out of the grave (or oven as it were) and give me a stern "Can't you all just get along???!!!"
