susandennisOk, so of course, while dinner was cooking, I couldn't keep my hands off. I powered up the old desktop.
Then I thought I'd try to bring up the new one in safe mode again.
But the keyboard won't respond to F8. When the system comes up, I can get to the hardware with CLT-I and then to the BIOS with F2 but after that, it's like the keyboard goes to sleep.
I put the CD into the drawer. After it gets through the BIOS option, the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD. comes up.
Earlier today (over and over again) when that came up, the period was replaced with one period, then two, then three while it waited for me to hit the key. I'd hit it and it would respond immediately.
Now it stops with one period and won't respond to the keyboard at all.
The keyboard is exactly the same in the same plug (PS/2, not USB). Any ideas?
Edit: I it to recognize the keyboard and got safe mode flying again. This time I
