I want to go back to that Grocery Outlet store and get some more shrimp and make a closer inspection of the rest of the store.  Maybe tomorrow.

I downloaded the security patches from Microsoft last night.  And for reasons unknown to me, I had a bit of a brain tumor kick in and downloaded some non security updates along with them.  I know better.  And now I really know better.  During the installation, I nearly lost my video totally.  After rebooting I did lose my sound completely.  And this all while I am still trying to figure out of Gmail was broken or if it was my connection/client/attitude.  It wasn't pretty.

Finally I rolled back and now I can hear again (and, Gmail is working, too - not connected but whey your stars align...).

Things that I appreciate about Vista:
- the messages are nicer and have more info but not too much - you get more than just 'restart now' or 'restart later'.
- the restore function which has always been one of my favorites, is even better and faster

We've had a parade of resident managers over the past 15 years of this condo building's life.  We had one for nearly half of that.  He was a mean snake but he kept the building going.  I was glad when he retired.  Then we got a revolving door and seemed to be breaking in a new guy (and one girl) every year or so.  Most of them got fired for being stupid, lazy or worthless - and a couple hit the trifecta.

Then last Fall, we got Scott.  Honestly, I didn't think he'd last.  But, I realized this morning, when I went down there to get a package and he came out of his office just to make sure all was fine and say good morning, that he's really turned into the best resident manager we have had.  He's got his quirks.  And we still think he's feeding the free book box with Bibles but he's made fans of all of us.  Two or three times this week, I've overheard people in the elevator saying nice things about him and his work.

So I sent a note to Jeff - the president of the board.  Jeff is a lawyer (my lawyer) who's office is in the building but he doesn't live here.  He's been president of the board for several years and done a great job and I wish he'd stay president of it forever.

I liked our last resident manager just fine.  But, turns out, he gave the board fits and his performance was so bad that they fired him before I even knew he was a problem.

So I was wondering if Scott was as good as he seemed.  I sent an email to Jeff telling him how much I (and those upon whom I eavesdrop) like him and appreciate what he's done.  Jeff wrote right back that the board was tickled to bits with him as well.  Nice.  Very very nice.

I received my latest batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies today.  I've been trying to find a source for good homemade Toll House cookies and have come up empty (anybody ever seen one?).   I placed one order that looked close.  They arrived promptly but they were dry and crumbly and not even very tasty.  I ended up tossing the last half out.  Today's batch is not Toll House but might be an acceptable substitute.  Not dry, not crumbly, fairly tasty.  The order took way too long to get here and the Paypal receipt said to send email for shipping schedule or questions.  Both my emails were ignored.  So... I'm not sold.   I'd love to find a supplier of good old fashioned - made with butter - Toll House cookies.  Yeah, yeah. I know, I could make them.  But they would never get to the cookies sheet. I'd eat all the dough.

We got word yesterday that the next couple of months are going to be Busy with a capital B.  But, today... not so much.  Fine by me.  I'm getting some other stuff done and just piddling around.  I might go across the street and get a BLT for lunch.  Maybe.
