More of the same...
Apr. 19th, 2007 02:52 pmWork is still a very respectable Not-Too-Much so I've been able to carve out a little piddle time here and there. I checked out 3 books on CD from the library so I ripped them to MP3's so I could listen to them on my player.
The audio book download checkout system has this strange limitation. You cannot check out more than 12 books at a time. Each book lasts 21 days. You can't listen to the book after 21 days BUT once you check it out, it is yours for 21 days and there's not a thing you can do to get rid of it (in the system that is) so... Check out carefully. Plus, their selection is so limited that I worry about running out of good ones.
So I like to keep a stash of unexpiring books available for listening. That's the purpose of the ones I ripped today. Back up emergency books.

When I read a book - turning pages by hand - nothing pisses me off faster than to get to the end of the story and not the end of the pages. You know, you are holding a book. Your right hand has a good sense for how much you have left to the end. Then you get to the end a good 20 to sometimes as many as 50 pages early and it's WTF??? Only to discover that they have 'kindly' included the first chapter of the dude's next book. That always torks me. It mostly happens with paperbacks so I've gotten so I look first now and put a post it sticking out where the real book ends.
My MP3 player tells me exactly how many minutes each chapter is. I am getting close to the end of the book and this morning I looked down and saw that there were only EIGHT minutes left! I was at the end of my workout. It's an exciting book so I decided to turn it off and save those 8 minutes for when I could really focus.
Lunchtime. I fire it up planning to enjoy my 8 minutes. Only 5 minutes into I realize there is no way they can wrap this up in 3. So I got out my glasses and see that the 8 minutes were really 1:08... I need a digital post-it note!

The Mariner game is at 3:30 today. They lost again last night but they are losing differently this year so I'm not quite ready to give up on the season quite yet. In previous years they just seemed to take the field and stand up to the plate with this giant We Suck attitude all over them. This year they seem to be trying on a We Don't Suck attitude. As long as they keep that up, I'm with them. Hook 'em! ooops wrong whatever but go team!

My three things that I really need/want to get done sometime soonish are:
1. tidy up the papers on this desk and file the ones in the giant pile o' shit that needs to be filed that's hidden in the cupboard.
2. drag out the sewing machine and shorten about a half dozen t-shirts that would be my favorites if they were shorter.
3. dust this fucking house - it's disgusting!
But, right now, I need to get back to work for a bit.
