A blog I read all the time tonight has an entry praising this new sock yarn... So I clicked on the link...

$27 for yarn to knit one pair of socks.  Now, lets just say you were a master knitter.  Excellent and speedy.  It would take you a minimum of 3-4 hours to knit a pair of socks.  Add your hourly wage.  Even at $1 an hour these suckers would be way too expensive to put on your feet!  Hell, I've paid less for a pair of shoes.  My Crocs don't even cost that much!

And the madness is that the sock yarn is flying off the shelves.  The woman who runs the site can't keep it in stock.  $30+ for a clothing item that will likely be covered mostly by at least shoes and maybe pants, too.  Nuts. Whacked.

I've been on a quest for some time to buy home made Toll House cookies.  I've tried a couple of places that advertised home made chocolate chip cookies but the cookies themselves were inferior.  So on a whim, I sent an email to the owner of another blog I read all the time - Not Martha.  She visits about a kajillion websites every day - lots of them dealing with hand made and home made things.  So I asked her to keep her eye out for one selling home made Toll House cookies. 

I got a reply back tonight basically saying she didn't know what Toll House cookies were.  She know what Toll House Nestle morsels were but never heard of any specific Toll House cookie.   A quick Google turned up exactly what I want... cookies made from the recipe on the back of the yellow bag of Toll House chips. 

When I was little every mother made them exactly as the recipe dictated.  And every mother made them often.  Even mine.  No variance was allowed.  I remember when we were 11, my friend, Frances Glenn's mother once put raisins in them.  Frances was humiliated.  There was much talk about the gaff.  I suspect there are some who still talk about it today.  The Toll House cookie is sacred. 

But, as Not Martha (who's name is actually Megan) points out, it is likely that anyone making them for sale would not call them Toll House cookies because of branding problems so I'm likely to never find them to buy.  Sigh.
