The return of Ken Levine
Jul. 12th, 2007 09:58 pmYears ago (about a dozen), the Mariners got a wild hair up their butts and hired this broadcast announcer who was a writers for Cheers in the off season. He was great. He had never played a lick o' baseball and did not tell the same war story over and over again. He was on the staff for a couple of years until Cheers went off the air and he had to go back to LA and get a real job.
I'm pretty sure that I'm the only Mariner fan who enjoyed him. And I've often wondered what happened to him.
My next favorite announcer is my favorite ex catcher - Dave Valle. I suspect he's a real nerd in real life but he played great baseball and he was hot when he was young and he's a good announcer. He does not say stupid stuff and uses good grammar.
Tonight the main announcer is on vacation. His color guy is, too. The backup guy is sick.
So we have Ken Levine and Dave Valle doing the game and it is fun. Neither is as good as I remembered their being but still it's nice to hear their voices again. Especially since I know it will only be for a couple of days at best.
