Way back when I got my new computer - November of 2002? - I got a new printer. A little Lexmark came free with the computer. I had an inkjet printer so I just took the Lexmark box and put it in the closet. I always hated the Epson I have. It never wants to print. It just wants to spit out garbage and it's loud and big. But, I had cartridges for it. And I could always print at work.

Well, now that the work option is gone, the Epson really does not want to contribute. I've pleaded and rebooted and tried and still it wants to give me shit.

So, today it got the boot. I pulled out the Lexmark and it was printing what I wanted to print in 5 minutes. And it's small. And it's quiet. And I am so pissed that I spent all that time and energy trying to get something out of that stupid Epson.

I should have known. Way back in the day, I helped launch the embryo that grew into Lexmark. I worked in the Charlotte IBM plant and we made IBM's first PC printer. A lovely little dot matrix number that really was cool. My job was to teach the exectives how to demonstrate the printer for the product announcement. I had 3 guys who had to take the thing apart and put it back together to show how modular and cool it was in front of press and analysts. So I had to learn all the parts of it and how to assemble it and how it did what it did so I could teach them. It was really a fun project.

Then IBM spun off it's printers into what became Lexmark. I shudda remembered my roots.

Epson Schmepson... Where's my sledge hammer??????

The old IBM/Lexmark 4039 was the only laser that had an envelope feeder that worked properly (well, most of the time).

Have you seen Office Space? The scene where they beat the copier to death with a sledge hammer to a gangsta rap song? If you haven't, you should. I feel your pain.

But wait until you have to buy inks for that Lexmark.
HUGE Ouchie. I loved my Lexmark multifunction, but to replace both ink cartridges was $50 even at Costco.

Still, it was (using my daughter's HP mostly now, the MFD is still alive) fast, quiet, and I loved the quality. Just not sure if the spendy ink is worth it.
