Guest Map

Well, turns out the guest map has some built in 'feachurs'... joyofmacs landed in Africa the first time because, apparently, her Mac isn't happy with the code. And kyrielle got some wild errors using the same browser I'm using. Oh and my friend, Scott, was pretty fried when he selected New Zealand for the flag and got Great Britain's flag. Very sensitive, those Kiwis.

But, I love seeing everyone on a map! Now I finally know where Greensburg, PA is (estis).

I'm so easily amused.

Like joyonmacs I use a Mac. When it comes to running Java Macs just plain suck. When I looked at your map using VirtualPC (my windows 98 emulator) it worked just fine. But viewed from my Mac I had the same problem as Joy with the zoom feature. And when I try the scroll buttons only the pins move...not the map. Greensburg is about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Well, see, that's why I kept wondering about Greensburg because it sounded so familiar. I went to a college that is about 45 minutes west of Pittsburgh (Bethany College in the middle of the WVA panhandle) and I'm pretty sure a fair number of my college buds were from Greensburg.

The college is indeed close. Naturally I checked it out. Seems they reduced their tuition costs. Tuition will drop from $20,650 to $12,000, making Bethany one of the most affordable private colleges in the country. Total cost, including room and board, will be $18,566. I assume that is per year. That is over $11,000 more than it cost me to go to Ohio U from 66 to 70. Yikes. I wonder how anyone can afford to go to college any more, private or otherwise.

I was so dumb and lucky at the time. My parents paid and I was oblivious to the cost. I did manage to graduate in spite of myself since I pretty much split my time between bridge (for beer money) and protesting the war. I probably missed a very good education.

But, the location was cool. Three Rivers was a brand new stadium and the Duquene (sp?) Incline was free. Life was excellent - or at least my memories of it then are good ones. I worked in Wheeling for a couple of years and it was a real eye opener coming from the South.

I just tried it now, and it didn't seem to like Opera, so I had to resort to using IE instead.

I got mine up there now. I was in a hurry to see it work so didn't spend a lot of time on my entry page. I think I should add a few comments about the Mac problems. Although I think the java/Mac thing is fairly well-known.
