This and That
Feb. 24th, 2004 09:51 amI did not go walking this morning. I woke up and it was raining which normally doesn't stop me but today it did. I got my coffee and got back into bed. I read the paper and then I finished a novel I've been reading. Then I got into the shower instead. Washed everything from hair on down. Clean feels nice.
It's time to update the knitting page on my website so I need to snap that photo and update my book data base.
I keep all the books I have read in a data base. I've done this since 1995. I include title, author, year published and date I finished reading it. Plus there is also a little paragraph about the book. This database feeds a page on my website where one can find the books by author, when I read it or type. In addition, I keep a spreadsheet of all those books plus the ones on my shelf and those that I've tried and rejected.
So, when I finish a book, I have a fairly convoluted process. I add it to the stack of those I rejected until I found it. I enter the entire stack into the spreadsheet. I enter the one I finished into the database. I send an email out to my list of people who want to know what I've read and what I've rejected. Once I get all that done, then I list all of the books from the stack for sale on Half.Com. Then it's off to the shelf to find the next victim.
The knitting update is easier. Snap photo, update page, send email to that list of people who want to know the latest.
It is definitely update day here.
And, then, maybe a bus ride to the end of the free zone and a walk back. It's no longer raining.
