So The Guy Who Owes Me Money is back from vacation and sends me a note last night that he put my check for February in with the 1099's he send. Well, if he did, I missed it tossed it out with the envelope. But, I swear he didn't. I remember thinking at the time that it seemed silly not to put the check in with the 1099's.

But, maybe he did and I did toss it. If I had deposited it, the funds would show in my checking or savings account which they don't. hmmmm

I sent him a note back that I didn't see it in that envelope and don't have it and maybe tossed it. I was very careful not to ask for or even imply that he replace it. I even said 'if I did lose it, it certainly isn't your fault. Thanks for getting back to me.'

But he responded quite quickly asking if he could just pay me double for March. Now I feel guilty. What if I did throw it away? Worse yet, what if I deposited it and am just not finding it in my accounts?

I now have a new system. I have a form with each month to be checked off when the check arrives.

I cannot believe how this whole thing has gotten so messy. At least I'm now hearing from him and he's obviously paying attention and not trying to weasel out of paying.

Underneath it all Susan ...you *know* he didn't send the cheque ..don't you? You are just being nice ;) If he HAD sent it I doubt that he would be that quick to replace it..he would ask to wait until he could be sure the cheque wasn't going in.

Watch him ..he is more slippery than a bag full of jellied eels from the sound of it

Although I can only imagine how slippery a bag full of jellied eels might be, I agree with you. I was thinking that if Susan had deposited the check, or if she tossed it and somebody else deposited it, EelMan would have record of it clearing his bank.

If he even thought there might possibly be a slim chance of the check going through he would not be offering to replace it.

Exactly. If he had actually put it in there, why would he be so quick to offer to pay double for March?

Yeah right, you lost it, what are the chances?

I am betting on you, but at least you are giving him a second chance. Nice of you.

Gee, I don't remember depositing that check, could you please send me a copy front and back so I can trace it?

Thank you ever so much.

Don't forget the three greatest lies.
