I just signed up for a paying vendor gig at Microsoft. It's working on a couple of their websites - internal and external and it is good - very good. I'm quite jazzed. I start probably on the 15th and go until the end of June.

I just made an appointment to get my car checked up. I bought it brand new in 1999 - a Ford Escort - the last year they made them... It has 5,350 miles on it. Yep. Total. I'm sure it needs an oil change and maybe even gas. Tomorrow. 9:30 a.m. I think I'm going to take it in and then do my walk from there while they work on it.

If I were a good daughter, I'd scoot out for a quick Mom visit since I won't be able to get there before then. But, she's just had her grandson and his new wife and she's tired of company and, more importantly, I don't want to go so I'm not going to unless she specifically asks which I don't think she will.

So... I have a week and a half to screw around knowing that there are $$ at the end of the tunnel. (Hopefully, this job isn't too strict on metaphors that make sense.)

Cool! You actually get some real vacation time! So I hope you are getting a good rate out of them :-)

Nobody is ever going to believe the mileage on that car, you should loan it to me and I can bring it up to something believable... I've done 22,000 since August.

It's just as well you didn't put off the unemployment chores or you'd be rushed to get everything done.

So are you going to do anything adventurous with your new secure vacation time?

Your car is going to last forever! I have a 1995 Ford Escort with 105,000 miles on it and it's still putt-putt-puttering along just fine and happy.

Excellent Susan. Well done! The ranks of the unemployed are looking one shade duller today.

I knew it would all work out well. Nice to not be locked in to a permanent job. Also, now that you are on the roster at unemployment, no waiting time.

Life is good. Enjoy!!

I rented one of those (http://www.rwhowell.com/my_ride.jpg) on one of my trips to England a few years ago. Congrats on the contract work. I have been an independent IT consultant since 1987 and haven't looked back!

I read this too quickly and the sentences "I just signed up for..." and "I'm quite jazzed..." morphed into:

I just signed up for jazzercise.

The rest of the post seemed REALLY disconnected.

I love the Not Martha site. Despite the fact that, in addition to not being Martha, I am also not Not Martha.
