Getting Ready...
Mar. 4th, 2004 02:56 pmI am not looking forward to the drive to my new gig. But, I woke up in the middle of the night and remembered what made it nearly palatable before and that was Books on Tape. I first started listening to them way back in the mid-80's when I lived in the Northeast and spent a good bit of my life in the car trying to get from here to there. I rediscovered them when I last drove back and forth to Microsoft.
While the morning's drive is fine with NPR's Morning Edition... the afternoon end hits a dead spot in the station's lineup so I had people read to me.
I'm a big book reader but really only have the patience for current fiction and mostly mysteries. But I do the classics on tape. For some reason, I can really enjoy classics when they are being read to me but can't get into them when I have to turn the page.
Anyway, I found the Books on Tape website today and ordered one. The cool thing about Books on Tape is that they are unabridged and read by professional readers. You can buy them, but I rent - listen to the book and then pop them back into the self mailer and order up another one. This time I got Edit Wharton's The Custom of the Century. It should be here by my first day.
Next on the getting ready hit parade is a visit to my IRS office to get info on general 1099 rules and poop on paying estimated quarterly taxes. Happily, the IRS office is on my free bus walking route so I plan to do that early next week.

Date: 2004-03-05 04:02 am (UTC)The IRS website (irs.gov)has forms for estimated tax. We just started doing that last year since we got stuck so bad with taxes. Turbo Tax will also do it I believe.
Pretty simple actually.
