The rest of the day...
Apr. 9th, 2008 06:00 pmThe meeting was very nearly as horrible as I predicted. But, it is over and everyone survived and there was no blood. Could have been worse. Much worse.
I called the cab to come get me and the really nice lady was very apologetic and said it could be as long as 45 minutes. She really was nice about it. I said ok. Then Arlene, my friend the company administrator said she was done for the day and she'd give me a ride home! So I called the nice lady back and enjoyed a nice visit with Arlene on the way home.
Once home, I got caught up on stuff and then installed the new modem. The installation was a bit frightening because it took so long and I was just not sure it would work - it seemed too simple.
And, much to my dismay, I learned that all of my neighbors have wised up and locked down their networks. There are NO unsecured networks in range! What kind of shit is that? I didn't. I named mine with my name and unit number and left her wide open. I'm a sharer.
But, once it went through all its shinanigans, it connected up and... OHMYGOD... I am so glad I spent that money. I have greater wired speed and far greater wireless speed. Nice. I've got to spend some quality time with the documentation cause this sucker's got options and settings and status and all kinds of fun stuff.
I need to pick up a long ethernet cable when the car gets fixed. Happily, there is a place to get one cheap right around the corner from the car place. This modem has 4 ethernet ports and one USB. love it.
Now the game is on and work is all caught up and I plan to enjoy the evening.
