Information or Action

Mom does not know anything about basketball (no one in my family did) but in the Southeast it was part of every conversation. So she had her standard conversational piece. Whenever she got stuck in a conversation about a basketball tournament, she would look incredibly interested and sweetly ask "Is it elmination or round robin?" Of course she didn't care what the answer was she just felt good about proving that she cared enough to join the conversation.

In a note to her earlier this morning, I explained that I was really enjoying my job. I told her that my boss tells me what he wants on web pages and I put it there. Very simple, very easy and very satisfying.

From somewhere, she has now come up with the internet equivalent of her basketball question:

She asks "do you do information web sites or action web sites?"

I'm sure that no matter which one I told her, she'd have no clue what that meant, but I love that she cares enough to dig out a creative question.

I love it! I am not a sports guy at all....so perhaps I could borrow your mom's phrase? I have to tell this story at work too...the ladies will enjoy it! Thanks for all conversation pieces!

It's yours! Go forth, use wisely. Of course, "elimination or round robin?" is now what she says when she doesn't understand anything - regarless of topic. It's always a laugh.

The story was a hit with the ladies at work, as was the one about the cordless phone/tivo incident...so do I have to start paying you royalties when I use your material?

Ha! No royalties but I could use some of your snow. I know you hate it but I miss it and the closest I get is your LJ so it's a fair trade!
