My new gadget - and its helper
Jun. 14th, 2008 04:53 pmI love apples - red delicious apples. I hate apple cores. Last year I got one of those things that looks like a wagon wheel that is supposed to core the apple and cut it into wedges at the same time. I do not have the talent to operate it and it does not fit in any drawer in my kitchen so it is going to Goodwill. A few weeks ago, I was at Safeway (major grocery chain) and saw this little puppy $5.
I've been using it and loving it ever since. I usually have a half an apple at night while I make my final LJ friends page read. So I core one and half it and put wrap half in plastic wrap. This last bit was making me nuts. Until I bought one of these. (I got mine from Linens and Things - $20.) No more losing battles with the plastic wrap.

You pull out what you need and shut the clamshell lid and it slices it perfectly and easily and your piece stays flat and totally behaves itself.
A well spent $25.
And I have declared the workday over. I am going to now go up to the International District and probably eat at Hing Loon or maybe Ocean City. Then home to watch the ballgame.
