So about 12:30, Jennifer from Qwest called me on my cell and I raced from my Floor of the Hall office down to my living room.  It took several revs of the modem and entering information, etc but finally, the connection was up.  Whew!!!

I logged on to work and got busy and immediately noticed that while faster than dial up, it was still slow as Christmas.  I slogged on through until I could get to a stopping place and called Qwest's oh so annoying voice telephone tree back.

This time I got Billy who, happily, did not spend a lot of time with the I'm The Expert and You Are Stupid routine and got down to it.  Finally after putting me on hold for 15 minutes he came back and told me to unplug the modem.  Now, one thing he did do well (that most do not) is that he told me to unplug the modem, not reboot or plug and unplug.  Just unplug.  Then he put me on hold again.  Then he came back and told me to plug it back in.

Once I did that speed dial nearly fell off in its rush to get to the very high speed numbers.  THANKGOD!

I  gave him the third degree and when it was all said and done, he did nothing.  What fixed it was the rebooting of the modem (which I had done several times) but he said the trick was to give it at least 90 seconds and 2 minutes is better.  If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed it.

All is now fine and fixed and whew.

And I am going to get a wireless modem even if I have to pay through the nose with a 2 year contract.  It will be worth it.  I put a query on Howardsforum looking for comparison info and/or other tips, hints about getting this kind of service for emergencies.   So far, no responses.  But, I'm staying on it.

I got fairly caught up on work, enough to feel comfortable leaving the rest until tomorrow.  I feel like I have been through the wringer!
